Let’s face it: it’s can be a harsh world, especially these days when tempers flare, violence erupts at the drop of a hat, and when arguments are far more common than conversations.
If you watch the news, you probably feel deflated, even hopeless. Is there any good news to be had?
Of course there is. But you won’t find it in your Facebook news feed or as featured stores on Yahoo! The media exists to write about bad news. Why? Because people can’t help but pay attention to the worst of society. They’re drawn to it, much like a highway accident. Thus, ratings increase. Readership goes up. But one’s spirit plummets.
But around here, I’d like things to be different. I’d like this website to be a very tiny oasis in the desert of despair. Here, I will post good news, stories worth sharing I may find online. Or – and this will be far more likely – things I observe around me on a daily basis.
Like now, for example. I’m sitting in a local restaurant near six friends who have gathered to share stories and laugh. They’re experiencing life in the best possible way – with joy and good humor.
That’s good news. And it’s worth noticing.
It’s easy to go out to eat and merely complain about the food or the service. Maybe even kvetch about current events.
But what about fellow diners nearby who laugh and tell stories? Isn’t that more important than real or imagined calamities elsewhere in the world?
I think so.
So that’s what I’ll do – post reminders of what’s good and worthwhile and joyful in life.
Blessings!
Bill
P.S. Being an encourager isn’t relegated to the male of the species. One could be a “Daughter of Encouragement,” too. Let’s not quibble about such matters. Let’s just do our best to encourage others!
